While your Microsoft 365 account may update automatically, it's recommended to perform manual updates occasionally. Immediate updates upon the release of new features are not guaranteed.
Please note this process is for individual Microsoft 365 accounts, instructions for business accounts may vary. These steps will also work for Word 2019 and 2016.
1. Open Microsoft Word
2. Tap the Account tab in the Home view
3. Select the Update Options button in the Account view.
4. Select Update Now from the menu.
(If your button says Enable Updates instead of Update Now, select Enable Updates first).
5. A dialog box will run a check for updates, and if updates are found another dialog box will appear stating that updates are being downloaded.
6. If you have Word already open you will be prompted to save your file and tap Continue and a dialog box will appear saying updates are being applied and will close once complete.
7. You are OK to relaunch Word.
