How to Force Restart your iPhone/iPad using iOS16+
You should hard reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it. These instructions are for a forced restart/reset and you will not lose any data from your device.
iPhone/iPad without a Home button:
Press and quickly release the volume up button.
Press and quickly release the volume down button.
Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears and then release the side button.

Force Restart iPad/iPhone with a Home button:
1. Press and hold both the Home button and the top button until you see the Apple logo.
How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13 or later
- Press and hold either the volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
- Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, as above.
- To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.
How to restart your iPhone 6, 7, 8 or SE (2nd or 3rd generation)
- Press and hold the side button until the power-off slider appears.
- Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force-restart your device.
- To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
How to restart your iPhone SE (1st generation), 5 or earlier
- Press and hold the top button until the power-off slider appears.
- Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force-restart your device.
- To turn your device back on, press and hold the top button until you see the Apple logo.
